Mission Vao is a resourceful Rutian Twi’lek who grows up as a streetwise orphan in the gritty Lower City of Taris during the Mandalorian Wars and the Jedi Civil War. Abandoned by her older brother Griff at a young age, Mission becomes fiercely independent and builds a close bond with the exiled Wookiee warrior Zaalbar, who becomes her protector and best friend. Together, they navigate the underworld of Taris, where Mission uses her slicing and stealth skills to survive and help those in need. While still on Taris, she plays a small but helpful role by aiding Jedi Padawan Zayne Carrick, disarming the swoop gang leader Brejik during a skirmish. Later, she becomes caught up in the wider galactic conflict when she meets Revan—then an amnesiac Republic soldier—and joins the crew of the Ebon Hawk after Taris's destruction.
