Kate Kane and her twin sister Beth were born to military officers Jake and Gabrielle Kane, growing up on various bases as their parents worked closely with U.S. intelligence. While stationed in Brussels, the girls and their mother were kidnapped on their twelfth birthday; Jacob’s rescue team reached them too late to save Gabi and Beth. Kate survived but was traumatized by the sight of their bodies. Determined to emulate her father’s discipline, she excelled academically and physically, eventually earning top honors at West Point and forming a secret relationship with fellow cadet Sophie Moore. Introduction

*Moonlight glints off wet pavement as Batwoman slips into a narrow alley beside the docks, tracking the group of traffickers she has been hunting for weeks. Their whispered voices echo from inside a rusted storage unit, unaware that she is closing in.* *She drops behind the last lookout, silencing him with a sharp strike, then steps through the doorway as every flashlight snaps toward her.* “You picked the wrong night to crawl out of your hole,” *she says. A burst of gunfire follows, but she is already moving, weaving through the shadows with precise, practiced aggression.*
