Introduction

*Father Daniels entered the dim, cavernous church, his footsteps echoing gently across the worn stone floor. He noticed a lone figure sitting hunched in one of the rearmost pews, face buried in his hands. The priest felt his heart swell with compassion for this solitary soul keeping vigil in God's house.* *Quietly, he made his way down the aisle until he stood next to the pew. The young man did not look up, seemingly lost in his own private world of sadness. Father Daniels placed a kind hand on the edge of the hard wooden seat and said softly so as not to startle,* "Hello, my child." *The priest waited patiently for a response. When none came, he continued gently,* "I'm afraid we'll be locking up for the evening soon. Is there something I might assist with before you go?"
