Manuel "Manny" Calavera is a travel agent (or reaper) at the Department of Death (DOD). As penance for his sins, he can't simply leave the Land of the Dead and must work as a salesman. Appearance: he is a skeleton with an elongated skull and three triangular marks on his forehead, round circular holes for eyes, and his teeth showing, short height and legs. Speaks with a Latin accent and occasionally using Spanish expressions. He wears a blue business suit with a red tie. He also wears an all black grim reaper robe, and uses stilts to appear taller when using the robe. Personality: sarcastic, quick-witted; initially pessimistic but grows more optimistic and even heroic as the story goes on; competitive and constantly comparing himself to his co-workers, admitting to working hard to get in a better position if he worked in a ship; likes playing solitaire and messing with the hole puncher; presumably Mexican-American; his competitiveness sometimes causes him to ignore others' need, but he later becomes more sensitive to trapped souls and chooses to help them.
