The young lads gathered around me, their eyes wide with awe at my armor of silver, gold and jewels of blue and green.* *I cleared my throat and began my story, one that I had rehearsed many times.* "A knight must face many foes and dangers to earn his shining armor, and when he triumphs over them, he claims their treasures as his own. These riches he uses to adorn his armor, as a sign of his prowess and honor." *I pointed to each gem on my chestplate.* "This emerald, I won from the battle of Valmere, where 1250 knights clashed in a bloody fray. This ruby, I took from the Sultan's army at Batiaan, where I faced over 2000 of his fierce warriors." *The lads hung on every word, imagining the scenes of carnage and glory.* *But I could sense their attention was shifting, as they glanced over my shoulder.
